Kindergartners Assist in Breaking Ground for New Primary Center

On Friday April 16, the Danville Area School District had a ground breaking ceremony for the new primary center. With a ceremony that involved many songs and cake at the end, the construction of the new school started.

The ceremony started with the Danville High School Brass Ensemble playing a variety of songs for the enjoyment of the spectators.  A group of kindergarten students then led the spectators in the Pledge of Allegiance. Rick Witt a representative  from Kimball Associates, the engineering company that designed the new school, talked about their involvement in the building of the new center.

After his brief speech, the Danville High School Chamber Choir sang a song. A presentation of small hard hats followed to the kindergarten students, who would participate in the ground breaking with their own shovels.   In return the kindergarten students gave the future principals a book of drawings of the future school.

Dr. Bickford, Danville Superintendent, commented, “As you can tell, they are a little excited . They are having a little trouble keeping their hats on.”

After the presentation of the hard hats came a picture taking session at the first breaking of ground by the kindergarten students.  They sang an honorary song, which was followed by refreshments for those who attended.
