Danville’s Cyclists Were Born to Ride
by Jake Feger
Driving to school may be no big deal for many Danville upperclassmen, but what about the students who arrive on two wheels instead of four? Danville seniors are taking advantage of the warmer weather by coming to school on their motorcycles. In addition, there are a few teachers who drive bikes to school as well.
Nate Coleman and friend Ben Webber ride to school together on their bikes. They normally ride their bikes to school on the days when the weather is expected to be nice. Coleman and Webber also have a group of friends who ride with them to school. Most students who ride with Coleman and Webber are informed beforehand so they can ride in a group. Their group of five consists of Coleman, Webber, Michael Mensch, James Hannon, and Chris Huber. When asked about what type of bike he rides, Coleman answered, “I used to have my moped that I rode, but once I got rid of that I now have a Kawasaki ER6N”
Senior Nathan Coleman said, “Riding is a lifestyle not a hobby.”
On the other side of the story, there aren’t only students who ride motorcycles to school, but a couple of teachers who ride their bikes to school too. Mr. Dave Fortunato, Danville’s Driver’s Ed and physical education teacher, rides his bike as much as he can. He rides when weather permits or just when he feels like it. Forunato was asked about who he rides with when he uses it to get to school. He replied, “I don’t normally ride to school, but when I do ride, I ride with Mr. Petrus sometimes.”
