Spectrum Hosts a Mother’s Day Event

May 7th, 2010

by Sara Gerdy

Spectrum is sponsoring an afternoon of activities for the female population of Danville High School and their mothers. This Saturday,
from noon until 3 PM, there will be “Feminine Frenzy” in the cafeteria.
There will be many activities for Danville girls and their mothers or
significant mother-figures. There will be jewelry-making, manicures,
cupcake decorating, karaoke, a photo booth, face painting and a
Chinese Auction. Bring along your favorite food to share. There is no
charge for the event.

The event is held by spectrum, an organization that advocates for acceptance
and diversity. Spectrum Secretary, Schyler says “We wanted to hold the event so that our daughters and girls in the school could have a closer relationship with not just their mothers, but a motherly figure, whether it’s an aunt a sister or someone in
there life that they can discuss things with.”

How does this relate to spectrums goal?

According to Raker “If they (a girl) has someone to talk we won’t have so
many girls feeling left out or creating problems with other girls.” Schyler is
correct about girls. According to FamilyEducation.com, “teenage girls with strong relationships with their moms tend to be better at working out
conflicting situation with others.”

All supplies for the event are being supplied my Spectrum members, they’re
even baking the cupcakes! Mrs.Krick and her mother are going to
decorating the cupcakes. Another spectrum members mother, Haleigh Allen, will be taking photos.

Mrs.Countermen will be doing face painting. There will also be a Chinese auctions
for different themed baskets that the students have filled. There will be some food provided but Raker says, “We ask for people to bring their own food, it can
be their favorite food or any random food you want to share.” The event
is sure to provide an afternoon of fun and bonding for high school girls and
their mothers or mother-figures.
