Child Development Takes Over the Library

May 7th, 2010

by Sara Gerdy

Some students and faculty may have noticed that the library got a temporary makeover on Wednesday, May 5. The library was shut down starting at the beginning of 6th period on . Students in Mrs. Mauk’s “Working with Young Children” class (also known as Child Development II) decorated the library with stars and planets as part of a literary workshop assignment. Starting 6th period, the young children from the Head Start program came up into the Outer Space themed library and were read stories by high school students in Child Development I.

The Child Development II students were in charge of designing, making, and setting up all the decorations in addition to coming up with the theme. The students in Child Development I were in charge of bringing stories to read to the children and coming up with activities for them to do afterward. The joint assignment gave students in both classes the opportunity to prepare and to present an intriguing, fun lesson to the Head Start children.
