Prom dress: $200. Flowers: $25. Limo rental: $250. Senior Prom: Priceless. On Saturday, May 15, hundreds of students, parents and relatives lined Mill Street to witness the third annual promenade of Danville students going to prom. There were long dresses and short dresses, shiny ones, shimmery ones, white tuxes, blue vests, and plenty of smiles.

This year’s theme, Through The Looking Glass, brought an Alice in Wonderland flair to the Danville Municipal Building. Kings of Hearts and Queens of Spades lined the walls, along with purple covers and lights to simulate Alice’s trek through Wonderland.

However, within the first 30 minutes, the temperature inside the hall was easily 20 degrees higher than the balmy, spring temperatures outside.

Sophomore Brittany Grubb said, “I had a really fun time despite the 100 degree temperature inside. All in all, it was a night filled with great memories.”

The heat didn’t stop the prom participants from dancing the night away. Mountains of drinks were consumed, keeping up the energy of the excited upperclassmen. “It was amazing!” said senior Emily Holmes.

Students also had a tent attached to the ballroom at their disposal to enjoy the evening in, giving them a chance to cool off from the ballroom festivities.

At around 10pm, the prom court marched through the sea of parted prom goers, and up onto the DJ’s stage. The honor of becoming prom king and queen were bestowed upon Chris Cooper and Nicole Wallize. Last year’s royalty, Jon Mrockosky and Courtney Zimmerman, were there to present the new keepers of the crown with their royal effects.

“I had a great time” said Cooper. “It was an honor to be chosen by friends and classmates as their prom king, and I thank them for that.”
