Danville Spring Sports Teams Prepare for Playoffs
by Andrew Andreychik
Multiple Danville sports teams are getting ready for post season play. However, only the girls track and field team participated in their district playoffs. Moving on to states are Sam Zampetti, Alison Billas, Kelsey Williams, Chloe Stine, Megan Kishbaugh, and Ishani Ekule.
But we just have to play like we can, and back up whoever is on the mound,” said Gronsky.
The Danville Baseball Team has their final game this Friday against Towanda. Their district playoffs start next week and they possibly will have a rematch with Heartland Athletic Conference foe, Midd-West. Shortstop, Jake Gronsky, commented on what he thinks about the Ironmen’s performance in the playoffs.
“I think our advantage is hitting, and if we produce runs like we can it’s going to be hard to beat us.”
Gronsky also commented on what he thinks the baseball team will lack in the post season.
“Like any other team, were going to have some trouble with pitching. As the year goes on, pitchers decrease in numbers because of injuries and fatigue. But we just have to play like we can, and back up whoever is on the mound,” said Gronsky.
The softball team beat Shikellamy last Wednesday and is now focused on the playoffs. Even though the Lady Ironmen are unsure of who they will be facing in the first round of districts, they will be still working hard to have a successful post season.
The boys tennis team had their districts last weekend. Lucas Franklin and Forrest Strodel won their first round doubles match against Loyalsock, but they could not get past the Bulldogs from Jersey Shore. Brendan Gruss and Fanchen Yang won their first round doubles match against Mifflinburg, but they also failed to move on as they lost their second round match to Lewisburg in two sets.
