Students “Zumba” During Lunches

May 25th, 2010

by Jeff Hauck

Wellness Week occurred at Danville High School during the week of Ma7 17, and  the first event to be offered was Zumba.  Zumba was held on Monday in the upper gym, and it was a very enjoyable experience.

A lot of students didn’t know what Zumba actually is, so they visited the gym to see for themselves how it fit with Wellness Week. Zumba is a new, popular fitness craze that has started up in a lot of places, including the Danville Community Center. It is a new form of fitness that requires easy dance moves to fast upbeat music.

The sessions happened during the lunches and a lot of students participated. With easy to learn dance moves, anyone can learn Zumba.   The fast paced Latino music turns Zumba into quite a workout.  Also, it requires a person to use muscles he or she wouldn’t normally use. The Rec Center sponsored this event, and it was a total success and a great way to start Wellness Week.
