Danville’s decades old Valediction ceremony will experience several changes from previous years. In an effort to cut down on the amount of time the ceremony takes, only students receiving awards will be invited to attend.

All seniors and their families are still welcome to attend, however.

In addition, caps and gowns will not be required by the award winners, as seniors are only encouraged to dress nicely. For those receiving multiple awards, students will be called to the stage only once to receive all of their awards at one time.

Over the past several years, the ceremony has gotten to about three hours in length. These changes have been put in place to cut down on that.

All of the changes have been instituted to cut down on the amount of time that the ceremony takes.

“Letters from the school will be sent home notifying parents if their child has won an award,” said class of 2010 adviser Mrs. Michelle Becker.

As in years previous, there will also be a guest speaker for the occasion. “Some of you make recognize him from WNEP, Norm Jones,” noted adviser Mrs. Micheals.

One additional change is that the awards ceremony will take place in the gym.  In previous years, it was scheduled outside in the stadium, weather permitting.  This year’s Valediction is scheduled for Thursday, June 10 at 7:00 p.m.
