Two Familiar Faces Set to Leave DHS
by Blake Baylor
Four Danville High School teachers are retiring this year, and two of them have been teaching for over 30 years. Mr. Steve Moser and Mr. Greg Gregory will be retiring after almost four decades of teaching.
Moser has been teaching for 38 years and actually started teaching in 1972 at the Danville Junior High School, which is now the building used by Danville Elementary School. Throughout his teaching career, he has noticed a big change with students. Moser said, ” The work ethic has become poorer because there are too many things to occupy their time.” Moser was asked what the funniest thing that happened to him as a teacher. He recalled, ” I taught an entire class with my fly down. It wasn’t funny as much as it was embarrassing though”.
He will miss the students and working with kids the most when he is retired. When asked about what he looks forward to in retirement, he replied, ” The things I enjoy doing, golfing, hunting, but I’m still going to work.” Moser was also asked how he’ll feel next August when he doesn’t have to go to school. He answered, “It’ll be tough for awhile. It’ll be a weird feeling.”
Gregory is also leaving Danville High School after teaching for 32 years. He started in 1978 at the old high school which is now the Danville Middle School. One of his funniest memories there was when he was given permission to tear down a wall in the faculty room and nobody knew about it.
When asked what the biggest change he has noticed in students, he said, ” The technology that is available to them today.” Gregory is going to miss “dealing with the kids on a day to day basis.” The thing he is looking forward to is “not having to go into mass movement every time the bell rings.” When August comes around he says he’ll feel “like there’s something missing, and like I have to do something.”
